Day Trip to Stone Door

Kevin and I went to a park called Stone Door this past weekend. Stone Door is part of a larger area called Savage Gulf. It is located right before you get to Monteagle, Tn. We just went for the day and hiked several miles. The first hike was to a waterfall called Greeter Falls. Greeter Falls was a double waterfall. It had a upper and lower falls. We first went to the lower falls that is the one in the picture. Then we made our way up to the upper falls. That falls was pretty but not as big. It was so beautiful. You can't see it but the water was so clear. There was a swimming hole close to this falls but we didn't have our suits and it was really warm enough to swim so went didn't walk that extra 1/2 mile to get there.

Next we went to the stone door. It was a about a mile to the actual rock formation but along the way there was a lookout, Laurel Gulf Lookout. You could really see a lot of the gulf. The next picture is of me in the Stone Door. The Stone Door is two large boulders that have seperated enough for people to walk between them. It was amazing to see these large boulders and be able to walk between them down into the first part of the gulf. The park has put in/arranged the rocks in the Stone Door to make steps that go down into the door. There is a picture of me going down into the door.

On top of the door there was another lookout. There were no guard rails or handrails up there. We were able to stand on the edge and lookout. It was a long way down. Kevin actually sat on the edge and hung his feet over. I was too scared.
We had such a great time hanging out and hiking. This is a place that we could also backpack. I'm pretty sure we will be going back with our backpacking gear because the trails weren't too hard, the park was beautiful, and it is only 1 1/2 hours from Nashville.
