July 4th Weekend

Kevin and I went to the Smoky Mountains for the 4th of July Weekend. Kevin had off Monday and I took a vacation day so we had more time to go camping. We decided that we could drive a little farther and be able to go to the mountains with the extra time. We hiked from Cades Cove. We covered about 15-18 miles from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning. We drove up on Sunday after church, hiked in about 3-4 miles, and camped at campsite #9. The hike was uphill the entire first day. On Monday, we hiked up to the Appalachian Trail, hiked to Rocky Top, and then back along the AT. We hiked between Spence Field and Russell Field shelters. We then hiked down to campsite #10 and spent the night. That was a full day of hiking because we covered 9 miles, and the first half of the day was uphill. Then on Tuesday, we hiked out 3-4 miles and drove home to make it to the fireworks at riverfront. The first two pictures are of Kevin and me at the trailhead of the Anthony Creek trail. The next pictures are on the AT. Kevin is standing on Rocky Top looking at the view. It was so pretty up there. Being up on the AT made me want to hike the entire AT more than I already wanted to.
